Slaves to our mtDNA

Past World of Wearable Art entries

.three women joined together

Macrame, yes that rope tying craft from the seventies was the back bone to this 2005 entry.

From the 40+metres of ribbon used to create the dresses to the wire and rope used to make the hair, this garment used the repeated image of the DNA spiral.

mtDNA is passed on from mother to child, a true lineage, that can be traced back to perhaps the first woman 'Eve'.

Their breast plates hold a locket revealing an image of the first sketch made by Watson and Crick.

3 women walk away

family history

A very personal piece, the last woman has, in her hair 100 years of history, four generations. Starting with just three mothers to follow back through millennia....
